Nippers & Cadets
NIPPERS
A basic knowledge of water safety is vital when swimming at the beach. Our nipper program caters for children from 5 to 14 and provides a great opportunity for them to gain valuable surf safety information and skills. The program focuses on surf awareness and safety, surf related physical activity and a lot of fun. This is supported by involvement in the LSV Junior Ocean Beach Carnivals and other supporting activities and training throughout the year. The Nippers program is for children aged from U/6 (5yrs) to U/14 (13yrs). Age groups in Surf Life Saving are determined by the age you are on 30th September each year. Please note that children must be a minimum age of 5 years to join Nippers.
A Junior participation proficiency swim must be successfully completed before any child is eligible to participate in any Club events including beach and water events. Please note the Nipper program is not a learn to swim program. To be eligible to compete your child should be conïfident in swimming in bay/ocean conditions. Should you have any queries regarding Nippers, contact our Youth Development & Leadership Officer.
All adult members (18 years and above) are required to complete a Working With Children Check. Parents wishing to become an Age Manager are required to complete an Age Managers course.
Due to increased popularity of our Nipper and Cadet program, all new Nipper memberships are to be finalised by the last session of the current calendar year.
All children must be marked on their Age Group list prior to taking part in training at each session - if your child is not marked, your child is not covered by insurance. It is the parents responsibility to ensure that their child is marked on and off accordingly.
